“Week of Love” Reflections by Michelle Race

I recently went to a family party to celebrate my grandparents anniversary. Someone got up and decided to say a few words about the love he felt for my grandpa because, in his words, he wanted to “give him his roses while he could still smell them”. It made me think about how I rarely take the time to tell the people I love how much I appreciate them. Luckily, the BGT ‘Week of Love’ rolled around and it seemed like the perfect time to hand out roses.

Of course, I have to start with my family because they put up with me at my worst and always cheer me on so I can be my best.

My best friend gets a shout out because she never judges me and because she’s always down for the 1am tacos.

I can’t forget my boyfriend because he is probably the most patient human in the world and we spend 90% of our time together laughing.

I’m thankful for Tiffany because she keeps pushing me up literal, and figurative, mountains every time I’m ready to give up.

And I’d like to give my final rose to the BGT community. When I spend time with the women who come to our events, I feel like I’ve finally found my place. I feel thankful to have the support of a community that shares some of my passions and have experienced some of my struggles. So, during this week of love I want to say a thank you to all the women of the BGT community who give me a sense of belonging.

Making sure I tell the people in my life how much they mean to me on a regular basis is something I definitely want to work on. If you’re like me and it’s been awhile since you’ve shared how you feel then it’s time to make that call, send that text, or schedule that hangout. And while you’re out there pretending you’re on The Bachelorette, don’t forget to give a rose to yourself.
